The Hoy Music Legacy:
Back in the 1930's, Bob Hoy started playing at dances at the age of 14 when he filled in for his Dad, Robert Hoy, at a card party in Michichi. Bob never stopped playing piano after that, and did it all "by ear". He became very well known in all of the surrounding areas for his wonderful piano skills. His bands were usually known as Bob Hoy or Bobby Hoy's band. Bob's son, Bert, displayed remarkable ability in learning the saxophone, and started playing dances with his Dad when he was 12 years old. His saxophone tones are the sweetest you will ever hear! When Bert moved away from the area, Bob started playing at dances with his daughter, Pat who had also picked up that musical talent. She had started playing a Baldwin electric organ, and found she could play all the songs with her Dad, by ear as well. Pat was 14 when she started playing at dances with her Dad. They carted that old electric organ around the countryside playing at weddings and all kinds of dances until Pat graduated from school and left home. Bob always shared his piano talents with his family, friends and community. If there was a piano around, Bob would be playing to the delight of all who listened.
